A Wonderful and Unique Guatemalan Tradition
What happens when you combine 'Day of the Dead', cemeteries, 'All Saints Day', giant kites, and fantastic meat salads? You get the incredible and colorful tradition of paying respect to deceased loved ones in Guatemala. Many people travel to Guatemala just to witness the spectacle seen nowhere else in the world. It is a tradition like no other!

It all starts on October 31st and ramps up for November 1, All Saints Day, and November 2. It involves most everyone in the country, both rich and poor. It is a national holiday and a day to remember departed loved ones. The traditions are an intriguing mix of religious Catholic roots and Mayan heritage. The cemeteries become full of life and offices and business become ghost towns.
